Menphina is the goddess of the moon and of lovers. She is associated with protection and charity and the release of burdens. Most cultural pantheons at least acknowledge her, although elf cultures in particular hold her in regard with her sister as the two lights of the sky. Human and halfling cultures tend to value her more in her role as the goddess of love. Her epithets include '''the Lover''' and '''Tender of the Moon'''.

==Symbols and Depictions==

Unsurprisingly, Menphina's major symbol is a moon. Either the full moon or crescent moon can represent her, and sometimes the two are drawn together (the crescent inside the full circle). One variation has the crescent moon with the tips pointed up, although this symbol is historically more associated with sailors.

Like all deities, Menphina can choose her appearance on the Material Plane. When appearing as herself, she nearly always appears and is depicted as a young woman, although her race and other details notably vary at her whim. She often - but not always - appears with silver hair. She has been known to also appear in the guise of a person's lover, or as their idealized lover, to provide counsel or aid to a supplicant.

==Worship==

There are temples of Menphina in several cities in the Vale, in particular [[Fishmouth]], [[Mournhill]], [[Highkirk]] (named for a church of Menphina's), and [[Keyloch]]. These temples are not very large, and smaller shrines exist in other settlements.

Menphina's holy day is in mid-February, and is celebrated with the exchange of sweets and small trinkets between lovers, or by making offerings of the same to Menphina herself. It is considered inappropriate or presumptuous to offer these types of things to begin a courtship on this day and it's said that bad luck in romance for one year will befall anyone who does it. Some dedicates perform small rites at every full moon, with more elaborate ceremonies at the full moon in June and November.

Clerics who worship Menphina are usually of the life, peace, or twilight domains.

Menphina's parents are [[Aelfric]] and [[Sealticge]], and her sister is [[Ascima]]. Through her mother, [[Draefendi]] and [[Nophica]] are her half-sisters, [[Alephan]] is her uncle, and [[Byregot]] and [[Bifelgan]] are her cousins. Her grandparents are [[Dohter]] and [[Dreisang]].

Unlike her half-sisters, she has a good relationship with [[Halone]]. Surprisingly, she is also friendly with [[Luthic]] (Luthic and Halone notably do not get along). She is particularly close with her grandparent Dohter.
