Vito's Prologue: Vito lives in a close-knit village outside of [[Torwald]], with his mother, a smith. His dad went missing when he was younger, something about which Vito has a lot of questions. He helps his mom out by making deliveries, marketing the business, and cleaning up, but he often gets distracted talking to people. He doesn't have a lot of focus or drive, and although his life is nice, it's a bit stagnant. Sometimes he goes out and explores a bit aimlessly in the woods, getting into scrapes when he disturbs a wild animal - something that happened just a few days ago, actually. He finds a note among his things when he comes back home, saying "There's more to it than you think.". Since he can't really read, his mom reads it to him, but she dismisses it as a prank or something. Aadi's Prologue: As the adventure begins, Aadi is studying magic on their own at the Library in Old Bay. Originally from Seashire, they've been there for a couple of years now. They're a sorcerer, not a wizard, but there's no real rivalry between the two magical traditions, because their representational gods - Alephan and Dreisang - are colleagues. They don't really talk about their wild magic, though, because it's not commonly known, and they don't want pity from anyone who does know about it. Their focus is lots of theoretical basic knowledge, not really working on practical magic. But, this allows them to make money by tutoring the basics to others. Another benefit of tutoring the basics is that if they need to pick up and leave at any time, to follow a lead, it's easy to do so. They always keep a bag packed, willing to just leave their books behind and go. And when they find a mysterious note slipped under their doorstep, saying "Take the first step toward your goal."... they go.
Vito's Prologue: Vito lives in a close-knit village outside of Torwald, with his mother, a smith. He shows it to a friend instead, and his friend suggests they probably shouldn't but an adventure might be fun. The thought energizes Vito, and he rushes home to begin packing, making a point to bring necessities but also some personal treasures - a baseball he got from his dad, and a cool chunk of rock. His mom is fine with him going, figuring he'll be back in a day, so Vito sets off...
Gift's Prologue: Gift is most recently in Rose Creek. She has been traveling for some time from town to town, looking for interesting things to do - and if she helps someone along the way with the power she received from the ki-rin who makes its home in the cliffs above her hometown of Cragpine, all the better. While in Rose Creek, Gift helped a woman who was convinced her sister was killed by some dark magic, having died suddenly with a strange glowing symbol on her left hand. Tracking back, Gift discovered a tombstone deep in the forest outside of town, with the same glowing symbol. Translating the stones, she read that "This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here. What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger." When the woman's sister touched the stone, she was cursed. Gift earned 7 silver for her efforts, although no justice could be served. The night before she was ready to head east out of town, she found a note slipped under her door - "They need your help." Curious and on the road already, Gift heads out once again...
They see the cloaked figure. V is intimidated, stares at the sky after it. G is huh, alright. A: was that an aasimar: the rain increases as they continue down the path (V just shrugs it off). AS they get close, the other 2 emerge out of the rain.
Aadi doesn’t care about fashion, more practical clothing. (glasses flare!) Gift is sandcat-like, cream with darker striping. Mane grown long in the darker color, cut a bit short. Flowers in her hair. A bit fashionable, usually a cloak open over her chest, a string bow on her chest. V is big, ripped, 6’5”. Filipino, fluffy black messy hair (Manny Jacinto). No shirt, yellow coat, varsity-jacket ish, pants that could have been fashionable, but knees are muddy and torn because.
V: did you see the parrot! G: it was not a parrot. A: how many parrots have you seen in your life, sir? G: so how did you know it was a parrot? V: It was really big. G: there are bird people. A: how did you lose your shirt? V: what shirt?
G: “I was told to come here.” V: it’s a road? A: you were told to come here by who? If I may ask. G: You may. I received a letter. “they need your help.” V: forgot what his letter said, so he gives the scrap to her) “there’s more to it than you think.” G: it’s the same handwriting. A: (evades) there’s something interesting about these parts. V: maybe it was the big bird!
A: I think it m ight have been a wereraven. V: gets bored and starts walking) G: you probably shouldn’t keep walking. V: what if the bird was the interesting thing? A: asks for names.
G, V, introduce themselves.
A: okay, let’s keep going forward.
V will take the 4th path, Aadi looks around and tries to cast mending on the pants. V listens and stands still. No surge, but interesting crackles and pops from the magic glow. V is blown away, he doesn’t see a lot of magic, trying to give her a hug. “did you see that! Did you see what they just did!” V to G.
Investigation 14 to look around: unfamiliar landmarks and the old bay weather wasn’t raining? Also feathers wehre wereraven took of from, stiff large and 3 of them. (V is still hugging, so A convinces him to move them over to the intersection.) also under one feather is a planchette. G chastises A for picking it up if it might be cursed. V plucks it from them and begins to panic. G explains her recent case, and V goes pale. G: “to be fair it might not be cursed.”
Does aadi know where north is? As long as the geography hasn’t changed, then she knows, but… aadi cleans off the feathers with presti, no surge but a sense of unease descends on them (V thinks the sense of unease might have to do with animal attacks, based on past experience, so he looks up and just gets water in his eyes.)
They realize the mists have obscured the paths they came down
G: “looks like this is how to go.” V: “uh, why?” G explains that the mists have overtaken the path, and they seems suspicious.
All paths are actually obscured, and as they decide to move on, the sunlight” dims and emphasizes a brighter light up a wooded hillside, the yellow of a lantern. Aadi suggests a will o wisp, V doesn’t recognize it, so Aadi begins to explain in tutor mode, tho V probably won’t keep it in his head, his eyes keep glazing over. He keeps looking over at G like, “is this real? Am I being hoodwinked?”
(Aadi reveals they tutored at the library)
