A marquisate is a rank of nobility in the Fairweather Vale. A holder of this title is referred to as a marquess, marquise, or marchioness and addressed as "Your Grace". The marquisates, as a group, are sometimes referred to as the marcher lords.
Rank[edit]
A marquisate is below a duchy and above a county, making it theoretically equal to a lordship. However, because of the additional responsibility of guarding the borders, or marches, a marquisate outranks a lordship.
