The party approaches the cave through the forest. Some are stealthed and some are not.

Raen enters the cave entrance and Mino comes up behind him and asks him out loud if he’s found anything. This causes one of the bugbears to roll a boulder down the left passageway, where it crushes the party and comes to a rest. The party mostly chases the bugbear up the left passageway, while Quinn, Quill, and Corrin squeeze past the boulder. As they’re fighting on the cave floor, the remaining bugbears and bugbear chief approach stealthed from the cave entrance. They rush Pasky, although Nergil comes to his aid. Mino leaves the fight and climbs up to the ledge (using his new axe to cleave the stone and pull himself up) to help Pasky and Nergil, while Quinn sends Valor to their aid. As they defeat the owlbears and their tamer, they eventually make their way down the right passageway where Quinn and Quill work together to dislodge the boulder and send it rolling out of the cave entrance, flattening the remaining bugbears.

Mino holds the chief in place while Quill uses his final spell, a magically modified fireball, lightning ball, which takes out two more. Meanwhile, Nergil has successfully defended Pasky, but falls himself to a bugbear wielding a maul. Eventually the group makes their way up the steps and surrounds the final bugbear, ending him.

They attempt to decipher the writing on the chime, only recognizing it as a variant of Celestial, and Nergil ritually casts identify, although it doesn’t provide any useful information. They settle down to take a short rest.
