Gunther is Zann's warlock patron, though Zann is unaware of the true nature of this relationship, merely believing Gunther to be a "good friend." Gunther is currently bound to a different plane of existence, with Schneider, and by extension, Zann, serving as his primary link to the Material Plane.

Personality
Little is known about Gunther's personality. Gunther presents himself as a loyal friend to Zann, but in truth he intends to use Zann to further his own goals.
Appearance
Gunther's true, full appearance is known only to Schneider. Gunther at the very least possesses numerous tentacles, as indicated by Zann's ability to summon spectral manifestations of Gunther's tentacles. Curiously, each of Gunther's tentacles seems to possess its own personalities and mannerisms, with Happy, Sleepy, Grumpy, Bashful, Doc, Sneezy, and Dopey among the known personalities.
History
Before the Game
Gunther used Schneider to offer Zann's sight back, with Zann promising his "friendship" to Gunther in exchange. Zann agreed, and Gunther linked Zann and Schneider together in a way that allows Zann to see through Schneider's eyes.
The Amulet
Sometime around the mission to Eiselcross, Gunther tasked Zann with retrieving an amulet in a shipwreck on the northwestern shores of Wildemount, and pulled Zann into the waves, with Gunther using his powers to cause Zann to wash up on said northwestern shores unconscious but otherwise unharmed.
Upon successful retrieval of the amulet, Gunther asked Zann to throw it into the ocean. Zann obliged, and the amulet vanished into the waves.
The Pit of Hatred
During the mission the the Pit of Hatred, Gunther assisted Zann and the others by temporarily increasing Zann's power in order to take out the undead horde, creating an air bubble around the Pit of Hatred, and protecting Zann from a brief encounter with Uk'otoa, a rival patron of the deep.
Palma Flora and Captain Three Earrings
Gunther's influence in the Material Plane was dampened during the Captain Three Earrings incident due to Uk'otoa's increased influence.
After Captain Three Earrings was defeated and Uk'otoa's artifact was destroyed, Gunther rewarded Zann by granting him the ability to breathe and swim underwater, altering his physique in the process.
Trivia
Gunther's true name is unpronounceable to known tongues. "Gunther" is simply the closest approximation Zann could come up with.
