Marquisate

A marquisate is a rank of nobility in the Fairweather Vale. A holder of this title is referred to as a marquis, marquise, or marchioness and addressed as "your grace". The marquisates, as a group, are sometimes referred to as the marcher lords.

Rank

A marquisate is below a duchy and above a county, making it theoretically equal to a lordship. However, because of the additional responsibility of guarding the borders, or marches, a marquisate outranks a lordship.
