Aelfric

From SDSDWiki

Aelfric is the god of light and fire. He personifies the day, and it is his light that sanctifies all holy places. He is worshipped as a minor god in nearly all cultures, although elven pantheons tend to place him slightly higher than others. His epithets include Flamebringer, the Kindler, and Torchbearer.

Worship[edit]

Aelfric's temples are usually just a small church and yard, and they can be found in several larger cities and towns. He is widely worshipped geographically, but has no major festivals or holy days.

Clerics who worship Aelfric are typically of the light or life domains.

Myths[edit]

Aelfric's demiplane is the Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground, a grand cathedral at the center of a hidden mountain lake. The lake is on the slopes of Mount Celestia, although it is said to be quite difficult to find and enter.

Sealticge is Aelfric's wife, with whom he has two children, Ascima and Menphina. His twin brother is Tharzidun, the Chained Oblivion, so Orcus is his nephew.

Tharzidun seeks to subsume everything into darkness, to reduce all to nothing. Aelfric saw this danger and took up arms against his brother, eventually succeeding in chaining him within his own demiplane, giving Tharzidun the epithet "The Chained Oblivion". Aelfric's followers are driven to continue the work their divine patron started, stamping out cults of Tharzidun wherever they can be found.

When they were children, he and Tharzidun found twin divine beasts while they were playing. The twins each raised one of the beasts, and the beast took on aspects of its master. While Aelfric's beast, Allynlear grew to become loyal and strong, Tharzidun's beast Nidizzar became twisted as its master's heart was consumed by darkness. When Aelfric chained his twin, Allynlear echoed his master's desire by seeking out and hunting Nidizzar.
